 Hotel Description:

The hotel offers an inexpensive continental breakfast buffet each morning and room service delivered from nearby restaurants. From the hotel's lobby, guests can catch snatches of the church choir practicing. The Salisbury also offers concierges, limos and town cars, business services and dry cleaning. This modestly priced hotel in an upscale neighborhood is popular with Carnegie Hall performers as well as families and other travelers who love the ideal location and a rarity in the New York hotel world: spacious rooms. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but is within walking distance of some of Manhattan's best eateries. Patrons can hop nearby subways for easy access to other destinations. Spacious guest rooms feature traditional ivory walls, cherry-finish furniture, heavy curtains, floral-patterned bedspreads, complimentary New York magazines, windows that open, cable TVs and safes. At discounted rates, the health conscious also can work out at two fitness centers. The neo-Gothic Salisbury Hotel offers guests a great location across the street from Carnegie Hall and the Russian Tea Room and only short walks to Fifth Avenue shopping, Central Park, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall and Broadway theaters. For example, Shelly's New York, a dining institution, specializes in Stone Crab Claws flown in daily from Florida, seafood and steak delicacies. The hotel, which opened in 1931, is still owned by Calvary Baptist Church on the first five floors. Suites have walk-in closets and serving pantries with microwave ovens, coffee makers, refrigerators and sinks. Talk about a prime location, and it's owned by the Baptists. Outdoor enthusiasts are only two blocks from Central Park's 843 acres of meadows, woods, cliffs, gardens, paths and lakes perfect for walking, jogging, boating, bird-watching, riding bikes, skating, and drinking in the views of the park and city.
